“... and so the story goes that 4 million years ago underwater volcanoes erupted which created these remote islands. Eventually animals (somehow!) began to venture out to these isolated islands 1000km / 600 miles off the Ecuadorian mainland. Left alone out in the middle of the ocean, and thanks to the unique mix of warm and cold currents, the Galapagos ultimately became home to the most unique, distinct and exotic mix of animals, flora and fauna, many of which exist no where else in the world. No one even knew about it until a med school dropout by the name of Charles Darwin landed on the islands in the 1830s....”
